No less than 17 our bodies had been recovered from the scene of Friday’s boat mishap alongside the Ojo space of Lagos State.
The ill-fated boat which took off from Mile 2 and headed to Ibeche within the Ojo axis capsized at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
The Zone Coordinator of the Nationwide Emergency Administration Company (NEMA), South-West, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the event in a press release on Sunday in Lagos.
He stated: “Late yesterday night time, two extra our bodies had been recovered along with the 2 earlier recovered within the morning.
“With this, a complete of 17 our bodies recovered.”

Farinloye advised journalists that the search and rescue operations had ended
The coordinator blamed unlawful boat operators plying the waterways past the stipulated official hours for the avoidable deaths.
“It was revealed that the regulatory our bodies have tried to stamp out unlawful operations of small boat operators who hardly use life jackets after official hours.
“However they don’t heed to laws put in place to cease them.
“It was additionally noticed that wood boats will not be permitted for use as a passenger boat.
“However it’s only at this odd hour that unlawful operators at all times put the lives of unsuspecting passengers in danger,” he added.
