The cities of Jonesville and East Bend will welcome new mayors following Tuesday’s election. Incumbent mayors for each cities didn’t file for re-election.
Anita Darnell, working unopposed, claimed 507 votes in her bid for Jonesville mayor. Incumbent Jonesville City Council Member Andy Inexperienced was re-elected with 357 votes. Claiming the second open seat on the Jonesville City Council was Scott Darnell with 333 votes.
James Dunn claimed the win for East Bend mayor, beating Larry Adams by 13 votes. Adams, nevertheless, will retain his present seat as a city commissioner. City commissioner incumbents Wanda Johnson, Daybreak Hobson and Neal Nichols gained their re-election with 135, 137 and 164 votes respectively.
In Boonville, Mayor Vaughn Benton, who ran unopposed, was re-elected with 339 votes. Incumbent Tim Driver reclaimed his seat on the Boonville City Board with 310 votes. Newcomer Greg Wagoner ousted incumbent Justin Phillips with 304 votes to 103.
Nick Smitherman, who ran unopposed for Yadkin County Sheriff following the Republican main, acquired 11,813 votes within the common election.
Incumbents Frank Zachary and Chairman Kevin Austin reclaimed their seats on the county board with 9,874 and 9,554 votes respectively. Newcomer Cliff Collins, who defeated incumbent Gilbert Hemric within the Republican main, topped the vote rely for Yadkin Commissioner with 10,119 votes.
Incumbents James “Slim” Collins, Coroner; Aric Wilhelm, Register of Deeds; and Beth Holcomb reclaimed their respective seats with 12,264, 12,276 and 12,407 votes respectively.
